Five steps to virtual desktops

Have a commodity server to spare? Why wait? Follow these five simple steps to virtual desktops. If you have a commodity server and a hypervisor you have everything you need to get started. Below are the five steps to virtual desktops.

  • Step 1: Register as a customer and activate account.
Click here to register and activate your account.
  • Step 2: Download the product and documentation
Login here to download the software and the related documentation and installation guides. Depending on which hypervisor you plan to use, download the appropriate version of the Kaviza appliance (ie either the one for XenServer or the one for ESX). All the help guides for the installation and setup process are included in a single zip file. Once you download this, you can use the Kaviza VDI-in-a-box Step by Step Deployment Guide to step through the setup process.
  • Step 3: Prepare a server with a hypervisor.
You can even get started with a spare commodity server you already have. To size the server, please review the System Requirements & Supported Platforms document.

Choose the hypervisor platform you want to run Kaviza on. Kaviza supports both XenServer and VMware vSphere (ESX, ESXi) hypervisors. Please refer to the System Requirements & Supported Platforms document for the compatible hypervisor versions.

  • Step 4: Load and configure the Kaviza VDI-in-a-box appliance.
Follow the “Installation Details” section of the Kaviza VDI-in-a-box Installation Guide which details step-by-step how to setup the hypervisor, load the Kaviza appliance, and configure the Kaviza grid. The demo on the right gives a quick overview of these steps on ESX.
  • Step 5: Prepare desktops from templates and assign users.
Follow the “Getting Started” section of the Kaviza VDI-in-a-box Administration Guide which provides detailed instructions on how to create desktops from template images and assign them to users.

That’s it. Five steps to virtual desktops. Once you have one server working in your environment and you are ready to expand the grid, simply bring in another server and point it at the first and watch how Kaviza automatically provisions and adopts it into the grid.

We are here to help. If you have questions, please call us at the number above or email support@kaviza.com.
