Kaviza VDI-in-a-boxTM Features

Simply Affordable High-Definition VDI

  • Quick deployment with minimal infrastructure. To deploy Kaviza, all you need is a hypervisor-enabled commodity server. Kaviza does not require shared storage or extensive datacenter buildouts. Simply install the Kaviza virtual appliance on a hypervisor-enabled server, power it on, and you are ready to go. All the functionality needed to provision and manage virtual desktops and create a highly available grid is consolidated in Kaviza's virtual appliance. Kaviza supports both VMware's ESX and Citrix XenServer hypervisors.
  • Horizontal scaling. Kaviza scales horizontally on inexpensive commodity hardware. Kaviza's patent-pending grid architecture is designed for scale-out, similar to modern web architectures like Google. The Kaviza grid can be scaled on-demand as your needs grow — you can start with one or two servers and as needs grow, scale the deployment.
  • Superior user experience.
    • Pristine desktops. Users get pristine, virus-free desktops on each refresh. Refresh policies can be set to be on each login or on a periodic basis.
    • Instant access. Users see login times of just a few seconds - this is because desktops can be pre-started in Kaviza, so they are ready and available when users login.
    • Rich high-definition user experience. Kaviza delivers rich virtual desktop user experience with graphics acceleration, multi-media redirection, WAN optimization, and access to a wide variety of peripherals. Kaviza is protocol independent and is available with both the RDP and the Citrix HDX(formerly known as ICA) protocols.
    • "Follow Me" feature. A user can access the same desktop session from different locations.
    • Multiple desktops. Users can be assigned multiple desktops which they can access simultaneously.
    • No user maintenance. Users no longer have to wait and watch as their PC is patched and updated. With Kaviza, this happens behind the scenes through templates.
    • Kiosk mode. Desktops can be assigned by user, or by IP address to support access from kiosks.
    • Zero-install desktop client. Users can access their desktops either via a browser or via Kaviza's zero-install desktop client that is included in VDI-in-a-box. The Kaviza desktop client requires no installation and it runs on any Java-enabled end-point.
  • Easy administration. Kaviza's lingua franca is desktops and users, not virtualization details. As an administrator, you can focus on what you care the most - your users and their desktops.
    • Templates. Setup different template desktop images for the various user groups in your organization. Desktops are generated from these templates. Simply update the templates and changes are automatically propagated to the virtual desktops based on the policies you set.
    • Storage optimization. Using linked clone technology, multiple virtual desktops are generated from a single image.
    • Single management pane. Manage the entire Kaviza grid from a single console. Unlike other VDI solutions, with Kaviza you do not need to manage multiple components individually.
    • Hot pluggable. Kaviza offers built-in high availability. As you add new servers, Kaviza automatically balances and replicates the workload to accommodate for new capacity. Kaviza automatically detects server failures and migrates the workload to heathy servers in the grid.
    • Dynamic desktop provisioning. Kaviza dynamically provisions desktops to users based on the policies you set.
    • Built-in load balancer and connection broker. Kaviza automatically load balances the desktop workloads dynamically across the grid, so you don't need any external load balancers. Similarly, Kaviza brokers all the connections, so no third-party connection broker is required.
    • Flexible deployment. With Kaviza, you have a choice of distributing the servers across branch and remote offices and still managing them centrally. In places where WAN performance can be spotty, this offers better end-user experience because users access their desktops via a fast local LAN.
  • Secure remote access. Provide users secure anytime, anywhere access to their virtual desktops using Kaviza's gateway software. Secure remote connections are established using SSL so that users can access their desktops from outside the firewall without requiring a VPN.
